"Where am I right now and what can I do here?” was the key question for all Second Life users. The user's abilities — the interactions possible with other users and with the virtual world — were governed by the permissions for the user's current location or "Place".
In the legacy Viewer, Place's attributes were poorly exposed and organized in the menu bar and in 13 tabs across three administrative dialog boxes.
Revamping the Viewer with a new IA provided the opportunity to streamline and simplify Place information to ease navigation and provide enhanced control. The Place Profile shows critical information prominently while more details are available in accordions. In consultation with expert users, critical Place information was always available in the Location Bar at the top of the Viewer. The reworked Places task panel contains Landmarks and Teleport History, a new and highly-requested feature.
